The Solar ATAP Program

The Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme (Solar ATAP) is Malaysia’s latest rooftop solar initiative, launched on January 1, 2026. Replacing the previous NEM 3.0 scheme, Solar ATAP is designed to be more accessible, market-driven, and “quota-free” (subject to grid stability), allowing more Malaysians to hedge against rising electricity tariffs.

Turn your rooftop into a powerhouse. Under Solar ATAP, homeowners can generate their own clean energy and offset their monthly TNB bills with increased capacity limits.

  • Higher Capacity Limits:
    • Single-Phase: Up to 5 kW (Increased from 4 kW).
    • Three-Phase: Up to 15 kW (Increased from 12 kW).
  • Bill Offsets: Export excess energy to the grid and receive credits at the Energy Charge rate (retail tariff).
  • Smart Savings: Reduce your dependency on high-tier tariffs and protect your household from future price hikes.

  • Capacity: Install up to 100% of your Maximum Demand (MD), capped at 1 MW.
  • Market-Based Credits: Exported surplus is credited at the Average System Marginal Price (SMP), reflecting real-time wholesale electricity values.
  • Tax Incentives: Leverage the Green Investment Tax Allowance (GITA) and GITE (extended through 2026) to offset your capital expenditure and improve ROI.
  • ESG Leadership: Meet sustainability targets and lower your carbon footprint ahead of the new 2026 Carbon Tax regulations.
Key Programme Highlights
Regardless of your sector, Solar ATAP 2026 follows a streamlined, transparent framework:
  • Contract Tenure: 10 Years of export credits (reverts to Self-Consumption after).
  • Credit Mechanism: Monthly Reset. Credits must be used within the same billing month (no carry-forward).
  • Meter Type: Single Bi-directional Meter for seamles import/export tracking.
  • Eligibility: Open to all existing TNB account holders (Single-tenant premises).
